Medieva clinical team reviewing a patient's chart

Our story

Founded on teaching, built for care

Medieva began in 1946 as a single teaching ward attached to the regional medical school. Today it is a full university hospital across three campuses, treating over 92,000 patients a year while training the region's next generation of doctors, nurses and therapists.

We believe a teaching hospital should feel like the opposite of a lecture hall to the person on the bed: unhurried, plainly explained, and led by whoever is best placed to help — consultant, nurse, midwife or therapist.

What guides us

Our values in practice

01

Explain everything

Every patient leaves a consultation understanding their diagnosis, their options, and their next step — in plain language, not jargon.

02

Treat the whole person

Care plans account for family, work and daily life, not just the condition on the chart.

03

Keep improving

As a teaching and research hospital, today's clinical trial is often tomorrow's standard treatment.
